WHO WE ARE

Relief, Reconstruction and Development Organization (RRDO)

Relief, Reconstruction and Development Organization (RRDO) is a national non governmental organization established in 2008 to respond to the growing humanitarian and development challenges affecting displacement impacted and vulnerable communities across the Horn of Africa. The organization was founded on the recognition that communities affected by conflict, displacement, poverty and climate related shocks required not only emergency support, but also long term investments that would strengthen resilience, restore dignity and create sustainable pathways for recovery and development. From its inception, RRDO positioned itself as a locally grounded institution committed to practical, community centred and inclusive programming.
During its early years, RRDO focused primarily on humanitarian and livelihoods interventions targeting communities affected by displacement and socio economic vulnerability in Kenya and Somalia. Initial programmes concentrated on supporting vulnerable households through basic assistance, livelihoods recovery activities and community stabilization initiatives. Working closely with local leaders, community structures and grassroots actors enabled the organization to build trust within the communities it served and establish a strong operational foundation in complex and often fragile environments.
As the organization expanded, RRDO broadened both its geographical reach and thematic areas of intervention. Operations gradually extended into multiple regions across Kenya, Somalia and South Sudan, with programme activities evolving to address interconnected challenges relating to economic recovery, climate resilience, natural resource management, governance, social cohesion and institutional strengthening. This growth reflected RRDO’s understanding that sustainable development requires integrated solutions capable of addressing both immediate needs and the underlying drivers of vulnerability and instability.
Over time, RRDO strengthened its technical and operational capacity through strategic partnerships with governments, United Nations agencies, international NGOs, donors and local civil society organizations. These partnerships enabled the organization to implement larger and more impactful programmes across displacement affected and host communities. RRDO also invested in strengthening its internal systems, governance structures, accountability mechanisms and programme management approaches to ensure efficient delivery, transparency and quality implementation in increasingly complex operational contexts.
Today, RRDO has evolved into a respected regional organization with an established operational presence, experienced multidisciplinary teams and a strong track record of programme delivery across the Horn of Africa. The organization continues to build on its founding principles of inclusiveness, accountability, sustainability and community ownership while adapting to emerging humanitarian and development priorities. Guided by its vision of resilient, peaceful and prosperous communities, RRDO remains committed to delivering practical and lasting solutions that empower people, strengthen local capacities and create meaningful impact for current and future generations.
